Reasons to Love New York

For Julie & Lynsey,

Because they are legally married…
So it is time to celebrate!!!!

Last Friday I was honored to go downtown to 141 Worth street to witness my best friend become legally married. Not to be confused with the marriage ceremony Julie and Lynsey will have this coming summer to celebrate their marriage with Family and Friends. However, still good reason to celebrate!

As I mentioned in Out with the Old, In with the New, we are going to have a lot of weddings to go to this year! Unfortunately, North Carolina, where Julie & Lynsey live, is stuck in a time warp and has not legalized gay married. Therefore, they came to New York to legally take the plunge. So many reasons to love New York!

Everyone knows I like a good spa night. These spa nights are often called celebrate Amanda night… So to keep true to tradition I felt a nice DIY lip scrub at home was in order.

It is at this point in the year that winter has left me feeling less than beautiful. When lip balms and chap-sticks aren’t cutting it anymore a scrub helps gently remove dead skin to revitalize life and color for a kissable pout. My favorite is the  Beautylish recipe!

What you need:
  1. 1 tbsp. Vaseline (a natural salve or balm can be substituted if petroleum’s not your thing)
2. 1 tbsp. Honey
3. 2 tbsp. Sugar (I prefer white—it’s grainier)
4. Flavor (here’s where you can get creative—I mixed in essential oils, but feel free to use maple, caramel, strawberry, or even a squirt of chocolate syrup.)

Step 1 – Combine the ingredients in the container of your choice (a small glass jar works well)

Step 2 – Mix until everything is thoroughly combined. You can add more sugar or more honey depending on how you want the consistency. You can even stir in a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper for a bonus plumping effect.
Step 3 – Scoop a silver dollar-sized amount onto your lips and slowly massage it in for 1-3 minutes. You can massage with an old toothbrush for extra exfoliation
Step 4 – Rinse the mixture off your lips and smooth on your favorite lip balm.

Now, Go Kiss Someone You Love!!
It takes all of two minutes, leaving me baby soft lips. And as an added bonus—all that massaging leaves your lips pink and plump!
