The tone in which we communicate often says more than the words that come out of our mouths. For example, I have this friend and every time she tells a story where I say something she adds in a bunch of stuff that I didn’t actually say because for her my tone said those things and so in retelling the story she wants others to understand what she understood. So frankly, she exaggerates.
Unfortunately for her, she often misreads my tone and therefore it is more annoying than enhancing the bottom line to the story. A story from her would go like so… “Yesterday, oh my god, I was walking around and I had this stain on my shirt and of course, who is the first person I saw? Amanda. And she was like “ew, gross, do you know you have like the most disgusting stain on your shirt? You really need to go wash that!” When in actuality all I said was, “oh hey, you have a stain on your shirt.”
I keep reading this quote from Rachel Zoe, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” For the most part, I think that is pretty true. You can tell a lot about a person by, not only, what make-up she is wearing but also how much make-up she has on. Now that the season of S.A.D is upon us I think it is crucial we start to set the tone without saying a word, (since by all scientific evidence we are too S.A.D to really say a word anyways.)
If style says who you are without having to speak, and eyes are the window to the soul than it seems to me a good place to start when you are seasonally depressed and still need to express yourself.
I have white eyelashes. Therefore, I have learned many a lessons when it comes to setting the tone with my eyes. I was delighted to read this week that ITG has approved for everyone to start wearing purple eye shadow again, since I never stopped, but add that to my favorite trick and things are about to be better than warm towels or cold pillows.
And if that doesn’t work to cure your depression there are always more traditional methods. Happy Weekend!here, here, and here, XOXO behind the mirror*** This make-up trick was originally read about here.
