Mom Knows Best

Mom Knows Best, Rebecca Teague, Behind the Mirror, Mane 'n Tail, Mother's Day

Over on Catwalk Cult I told you guys about all the things I have done in the name of cool… It went like this: I have done a lot of things in the name of “cool.” I have had many piercings… three on both ears, my nose, and my belly button to name a few. I have gone to punk rock concerts and shoved my way up front (literally), driven recklessly and knew better, and tried some questionable substances for energy. Here is the thing about Mom’s; they don’t care about what is cool. I am pretty sure that is what makes them good moms. My mom told me stuff a lot in the form of advice. More often than not, I didn’t listen to her. (I seriously should have, she knows what is up.) Why would I? That wouldn’t be cool…Mom Knows Best, Rebecca Teague, Behind the Mirror, Mane 'n Tail, Mother's Day

Throughout the years, my mom and I would fight, for sure, but in the end, she always let me go for it. I have dyed my hair almost any color you can imagine and probably all at the same time (X-tina highlights anyone? Jet black tips on platinum blonde? Great Idea?) But, there was this one time when my mom told me not to do something. And I listened to her, (for now… although I am not 100% committed to continuing to listen.) Once, she said to me, “Amanda, do not get a tattoo.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love tattoos Ah-lot. Rihanna comes to mind quickly. Here is the thing that I am guessing Becky knew a long time before Amanda did. I change my mind a whole lot. Permanent things, hell, even the word permanent or God forbid forever scares me. Amanda + Tattoo = super sad Amanda when she changes her mind about that butterfly on the top of her foot, the sacred heart at the bottom of her neck, or some kind of anything on the underside of her wrist. I am not going to lie, right now a tattoo is looking good to me. But Mom knows best.Mom Knows Best, Rebecca Teague, Behind the Mirror, Mane 'n Tail, Mother's Day

Some other advice my Mom once gave me came in the form of Shampoo & Conditioner.

Mane ‘n Tail was developed for horses, but works for human hair too! Don’t believe me, check out this article, just last week, on Into the Gloss. This is legit. According to ITG, “Applied in the usual human fashion, Mane ’n Tail leaves hair shiny and clean.

Is Mane ’n Tail the best possible shampoo for human hair? Probably not. But it works, and it’s cheap, and you can buy it at nearly every drugstore.”

Now, you just have to guess if Mane ‘n Tail is my mom’s favorite shampoo for her or her horses?

Thank you Mom for all your advice. Happy Mothers Day.

mmmm…. lovely post. It was the same for me in so many aspects. Mothers Day was on last Sunday (in Spain, where we both are from). I am living in Chile, far far away from her and every time I think of all the speeches she gave me, she seems wiser to me. yep! Mom knows best! <3

    • exactly, they do that… they always seem to get wiser as we get older. haha

Oh mums. They know best, and though I don’t necessarily see eye to eye with some of my mom’s ideas, you have to admit they are trying their best to raise us. One thing I don’t like about growing older though, is, I guess, that it’s somewhat socially unacceptable to hang around your parents too often? WHATEVES, I HAVE TOO MANY DATES WITH MY MOM AND I’M SHAMELESS. (BUT TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS ARE COOL! ;-;)

Mom’s are the best, no? And I loved Mane ‘n Tail as a kid when I was trying to grow my hair out- I should totally pick some up again next time I’m at Target!

    • You mom is so lucky! After everything I put my poor mother through during my teenage years I am sure she wished for a less rebellious child at times, haha!!

That was really such a cute article and best way to say “thank you” to your mom!!!
Because although we don’t want to see it, moms are always right and give the best advices.
Regarding the things you did for being cool: gosh, I could have written exactly the same text!! Including tongue piercing, hair dyeing etc. And fortunately I NEVER got a tattoo because although it seemed the coolest thing when I was 18, it doesn’t seem that cool to me now, especially the things people tattoed back then (err, tribals and butterflies on the rump, koi fishes and lotus flowers…).

    • Thank you so much!! and I would for sure have a butterfly somewhere on my body if it hadn’t been for my mom, haha!! Thank God for her, huh?

    • Thank you so much!! The shampoo is good when you’re in a crunch, but like I said… it may not be the best shampoo to use on your hair all the time.
