Night Time Routine Under 5 Minutes


I love to read books. Currently, I am reading Joan Didion’s ‘Slouching towards Bethlehem ‘ It’s beautiful. The words jump off the pages. The way she sees such beautiful things in everyday life along with the concerns of everyday life that seem to fall through the cracks is perfect. She provides a voice into a life that might otherwise never be heard. Simple stories about John Wayne even hold my attention. Which is hard considering I grew up with a Father whose favorite television genre was Westerns. Needless to say, I’ve seen them, and developed quite a knack for blocking them out. But, Didion’s words make me want to re-watch those old films and look for the same details she describes.
But, let’s be real… It’s is soooooooooooooo much easier to watch TV vs. reading a book. It’s even easier to watch bad TV instead of reading a book. Especially, when House of Cards has new episodes on Netflix.

And so, a lot of the time, I watch television because I am lazy.
This is nothing new. I am lazy as F$@#, and it doesn’t just affect my literary practices at night. It also affects my night time beauty routine.
I am no stranger to going to bed with my makeup on. It’s a terrible habit, one that I’ve tried to break a million times in an attempt to be an adult. However, nothing has really ever stuck.
Recently, I created a bare bones night time routine that takes less than 5 minutes. After binge watching 3 episodes or more a night, I’m tired. So tired that the idea of spending anymore time awake is a living nightmare. But, even I can manage this.

What you do:

Step 1 – Spray face with some rose water. I’ve been using Fresh’s Floral Toner. Works great.

Step 2 – Remove makeup with a wipe. I swear by the Physicians Formula Facial Makeup Remover Towelettes. I’ve used them for years. The actual tissue is softer than a lot of the others I’ve tried. It doesn’t scratch or irritate any little blemishes that I may have.

Step 3 – Rub Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins all over face and neck.

Less than 5 minutes. Promise.

  • Oh man, as soon as I get home, I always want to scrub off my makeup, either with cleansing balms, or, if I’m too tired, makeup wipes. LET THEM JUDGE US, BUT IDGAF. And yeah, it is so much easier to watch tv than read (especially when you’re tired), but THAT EPISODE AIN’T GONNA WATCH ITSELF.

  • I can’t say I’m as lazy with my night time routine (I regularly do 7-8 steps), but I love Joan Didion’s work. I recently read Play It As It Lays and it was amzing! The book, despite being dramatic, is so intriguing, it’s really hard to put down. Her writing is just beautiful and kind of calming to read.

    (reading blogs as opposed to studying for tomorrows exam…)
    The only thing i can manage to do on supah lazy days is wipe alpha h liquid gold everywhere, just soak two cotton pads and go to town. I figure the first pad will get the gross stuff off and the second one will work some magic juju so that i can pretend like i did something good for my skin before going to bed.

  • I am lazy as F$@# too, no doubt about this!!! But if there is one thing my mom (61, no wrinkles) always told me since I was relatively small was: NEVER go to bed with makeup, always clean your face!!! And that’s what I do actually. My cleansing routine doesn’t take long but I guess, consistency is key. I even manage to clean my face, take out my lenses and brush my teeth coming home after party and excessive use of alcohol, don’t ask me how!!

    • That is amazing. I long to be that responsible and good to my skin. I’m having a pretty good run so far… fingers crossed.
