When I was in high school I wore Bath & Body Works Cucumber Melon body lotion every single day, without fail. (You could totally tell from my pic, right? Like, I just look like that type of girl, I know… there is nothing else I can do.) I also wore a Jansport backpack with a Phish patch, sewn on by yours truly, which I paired with Birkenstocks that I still own and now wear with my Marc Jacobs skirts, thanks Phoebe. Do with that what you will, clearly the amount of free time I have in my thirties is relatively the same as when I was in my teens. (more…)
I have given up on the dream that I could look like Alexa Chung, Brigitte Bardot, or Jane Birkin. Why? Because, they have bangs. Bangs are a lot of fun to get, and a lot less fun to get rid of. Like the house guest you thought it would be fun to hang with for a couple hours because you didn’t have anything to do, but here it is 5 hours later, really wanting to go to bed, and they are still here, with the remote, and now they are choosing which Girls episode we are going to rewatch? When it is time to go, it is time to go. Au revoir! I should know better given this is probably the 144th time I have cut bangs and then decided a few months later to grow them out.

There comes a time in every young girl’s life when she looks at a magazine filled with beautiful models and says to herself, “I would like to look like that.”
My whole life I have been “on the go.” I couldn’t stand to not be out and about, “spinning my wheels” as my mother would say, not really doing anything. It’s part of the reason I think I have blended so effortlessly into the New York culture. (more…)
