It’s F*&%ing Hot!

For the love of Summer,
Because this isn’t funny…
So don’t laugh!
It’s F’ing Hot! And not like The Simple Life “That’s Hot,” like you walk one block down the street with wet hair and it’s completely dry hot. This week started with a relaxing day on Sunday at the beach and was followed up on Monday by an even more relaxing evening at Central Park listening to the NY Philharmonic. I felt great and didn’t want the relaxation to end… between work, life, and a city that is tense by default how do you find a way to relax and stay calm?

I don’t know, nor do I have time to find out because a heat wave hit!!! Nothing agitates otherwise manageable situations like extreme swelter. As I hailed a cab to go 4 blocks, which is otherwise super ridicules, the cab driver looked at me in disbelief as I gave my destination and said, “That’s four blocks.” No Shit. It is also over 100 degrees outside and I don’t see you walking around…Needless to say, I have spent the afternoon completely indoors while researching how to keep your cool in a heat wave!!!

Remember how we were taking a cue from the Phoebe Philo’s of the world? Well, you can take that up about ten degrees (pun intended.) Natural doesn’t even cut it. Thanks for the inspiration Daria Werbowy but minimal can’t even begin to describe the routine I have been working with this week.
As the sweat forms atop your upper lip, fear not. Because after a week in what must be similar to hell right here in New York City this is the best guide to looking beautiful at least presentable during a serious scorcher.

First, you could walk through a sprinkler on your way to work. However, I feel those aren’t readily available on my morning commute… although I am not sure why not. But if the opportunity does present itself you should take it. Keeping that in mind you don’t want to be wearing makeup that could smudge if you do indeed take a plunge. I suggest no mascara. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Next, you could pray to whatever God will listen for a down pour of freezing cold rain/snow. This is even more improbable than the first, so no real reason to prepare, just hope for the rest of us…

Seriously, Sunscreen.
For realz. The heat wave isn’t kidding and neither is skin cancer. Don’t be fooled. More than one Dr. has told me that sunscreen doesn’t prevent skin cancer it prevents sunburn. And from what I understand the more you burn the more you are raising your risks. The first order of business when it comes to sunscreen is to look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection, an SPF higher than 15, and ingredients that include one of the following: antihelios, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or parasol 1789.

There are a few strong soldiers in the war against the mighty heat wave who have proven their loyalty to me.

Broad Spectrum SPF
The first is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen , SPF 70. I agree the SPF seems exteme, but again desperate times call for desperate measures.

Daily Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is a good one if you are prone to breakouts. Honestly, I am a drugstore girl when it comes to sunscreen but when I feel like splurging this is my go to.

After that, from the looks of me this week… grab a hat, protect your eyes with some sunnies, take cover, and good luck.

Any other fighters against the Heat I should know about?
