What Are Nail Ridges?
I’m Back! fix your bent antenna tune it in and then i’m gonna… I took last week off from the blog. I did this for a couple reasons. The first one being I couldn’t remember what it was like before I wrote the blog. As some of you may or may not know, I spend a lot of time working on the site. Almost every night for over a year and a half, while on vacation, while friends were out socializing, and while a million other things were going on, I worked on the blog. I work on the blog because it brings me great joy to write all these tips and adventures of beauty. But, I started to question whether or not I still enjoyed the ritual. For better or worse, I found myself really longing to work on the blog last week. In fact, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be to NOT work on the blog. So, with that being said, I wanted to tell you Thank You for continuing to read along, even though I did abandon you without notice. The result of my little project should ensure you that I probably won’t be doing that again for at least another year and a half. Don’t worry, stay tuned. So last week… oh last week… I am sure you are just dying to know what I did. Well, you probably aren’t that interested, but here we are and just like baby photos on Facebook, they keep coming and we keep scrolling… The short answer to what I did last week is, not much. I did get a manicure with all the free time I had and I also reintroduced myself to an old manicure concern.
I am not a stickler when it comes to getting my nails done every week. I usually try to go once a week, end up making it every other week, and most times once a month. What usually happens is I finally can’t look down at my hands without the feeling of defeat overtaking my mood. It is this point that I am off to the salon https://mannligapotek.com/tadalista-ct-reseptfri/.
When I first noticed ridges lengthwise on my fingernails I made it my business to find out what that was about. And because I am a fast learner, I now understand the vertical lines or “ridges” are common and come with age. Certainly, nothing to get hot and bothered about. In the huffington post, Dr. Phoebe Rich, M.D., FAAD, clinical adjunct professor of dermatology at Oregon Health Science University is quoted saying, “As we age the nail matrix becomes atrophied in areas resulting in longitudinal ridging of nails.” I am definitely in the process of embracing aging but decided I wanted to pursue a ridge filler this time. Essie fill the gap is a base coat specifically designed to fill the ridges allowing the top coats of color go on smooth.
Although, a better way to handle the problem is moisturizing the nail throughout the day with a thick lotion or petroleum jelly, paying close attention to the cuticle. Also, it seems to me that it isn’t a good idea to buff the ridges off. From what I read, the bottom of the ridge is the thinnest part of the nail and buffing it down could cause breakage or splitting and possibly other problems. For realz.
So I am curious, anyone else notice those ridges on their nails or are my fingernails just ahead of the curve?

Quite a few new things are going on here at Behind the Mirror. I am going to be integrating a native advertising solution. Therefore you will start to see sponsored posts & promotional posts. Listen, a girl has to eat… and I would like to eat by blogging.
The posts will be marked as sponsored and if you have any other questions you can email me at behindthemirrorblog{at}gmail{dot}com, the BtM contact page, and read the BtM policies & services page. I know a lot of you have your own blogs and the native advertising solution might be a nice fit for your site. Please feel free to message me about more info too!
I am also planning to start to use the blog to feature some of my amazing friends who are more talented than most. I love the sense of community the blog has and I know at first it will be weird to hear someone’s voice besides my own. But rest assured, I am still here, still writing, and still struggling with my beauty routine one day after the next. Trust me, given the right amount of time I know you will see what I see in them, learn to love them, and be as impressed with their art as I am.
