A Rose Mask Valentine

Valentine’s day isn’t really my thing.

Most years, I luck out and have some fashion related something to attend since it almost always falls during fashion week. This year I wasn’t so lucky. But, since I do give the occasional spare change to homeless people on the street karma is on my side. A good friend’s birthday falls on the big day. So, again, I luck out because for the last two years she has had a wonderful birthday celebration, getting me out of any type of red lips with chocolate and a tight red dress obligations.

(That would make me puke.)

The concept is a hard one for me to wrap my head around. Generally, we consider those in relationships to have found “happiness” and the others, well, they’re just out of luck most days, but on Valentines day… forget it. It appears to the untrained eye that according to Hallmark, you should probably kill yourself. Hearts and confetti are everywhere, literally bursting out of every corner in every store one walks into.

I find the celebration of my love on a particular day because once upon a time a Saint Valentine of Rome supposedly was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry odd… and spoiler alert, he was executed and an embellishment to this story states that he left a farewell letter for some bitch he preformed a miracle on and signed it “Your Valentine.” I have found love and happiness, but it is personal. As someone who shares more than one thought during my week here on the blog, being so over the top with my very own happiness is a bit like an invasion of privacy, no? I imagine it is how Beyonce feels every time she sets foot outside her house and 10,000 photographers are lined up. I mean I overheard Jay Z say “[ I ] Can’t even take my daughter for a walk.” Not kidding. He said that directly to me, right through my headphones.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a complete hopeless romantic. Grand gestures are for sure something I can get behind but I don’t know… I used to try to get into it, with roses and celebrating, but as I grow older the tradition just seems to lack some sort of deeper meaning.

Either way. Valentine’s Day, if nothing else, is awkward. So, as I have been known to do, I think everyone should take this special day and celebrate yourself. If that means having a romantic dinner with your significant other then you should totally do that! If that means spending some time getting yourself flowers and applying a face mask then you should totally do that too!

I will be at a party, but not until after I get myself some lovely flowers and spend some time with my Rose Mask Valentine from Fresh.

A hydrating and toning mask with a cooling gel formula infused with pure rosewater and real rose petals. Historically romantic and classically fragrant, the rose flower yields a precious oil brimming with nutrients that naturally soothe the skin and stimulate the senses. Infused with 50 percent pure rosewater and an average of two-and-a-half roses per jar, this unique mask restores radiance and suppleness to all skin types.

What you do:
1.) Apply to cleansed, moist skin, avoiding the eye area.
2.) Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse with water.
And that’s it!

Gorgeous pictures! I’m still one of those (single) hopeless romantics that secretly loves all the lovey dovey stuff. You are right about the Hallmark thing though…
